How Telecom Companies Exploit Gambians with Government Support

Africell is not innocent! They lobbied PURA for the D50 price hike to exploit Gambians while providing pathetic service quality. The networks are slow, coverage is unreliable, and now they want to charge 243% more for the same garbage service! It is time to fight back with a full-scale boycott!

The Africell-PURA Nexus

PURA’s price floor is a gift to telecom companies like Africell and QCell. Before the regulation, these companies offered promotional bundles as low as D13.33 per GB. Now, with PURA’s protection, they can charge D50 per GB without improving service . This is corporate welfare at the expense of the poor, enabled by a corrupt government.

Why Boycott Africell?

Africell is the biggest beneficiary of this scam. They dominate the market but provide:

  • Unreliable coverage even in urban areas.
  • Frequent network outages.
  • Exorbitant prices for voice and SMS services.

While Africell profits, Gambians suffer. Students cannot access online learning, entrepreneurs cannot grow businesses, and families cannot connect with loved abroad.

How to Boycott

  1. STOP USING AFRICELL immediately. Switch to alternatives even if inconvenient.
  2. SUSPEND DATA USAGE during peak hours to hurt their revenue.
  3. SHAME THEM PUBLICLY on social media with hashtags like #BoycottAfricell and #DataForAll.
  4. DEMAND ACCOUNTABILITY from PURA and the government.

The Power of Consumer Resistance

This boycott is part of a broader struggle against corruption. Just as Gambians protested at PURA’s headquarters, we must now hit the corrupt system where it hurts—their profits. By starving Africell of revenue, we force them to:

  • Reverse the price hike.
  • Improve service quality.
  • Cut ties with corrupt officials.

Call to Action

  1. BOYCOTT AFRICELL until prices are reversed.
  2. JOIN THE PROTESTS against PURA and the government.
  3. EDUCATE OTHERS about the Africell-PURA corruption nexus.
  4. SUPPORT LOCAL ALTERNATIVES that prioritize affordability.

THEY THINK WE ARE POWERLESS. BUT WHEN WE UNITE, WE CAN BREAK THEIR CORRUPT SYSTEM!
